The Importance of Good Nutrition in Today’s Life

Unhealthy eating combined with physical inactivity is the leading cause of death in the USA.

A diet high in calories, saturated fats, refined sodium and sugar, couple with low fiber and nutrients can lead to various health problems. Some these health problems are:

  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • High blood pressure
  • Stroke
  • Osteoporosis
  • Cancer
  • Autoimmune diseases

Years ago, our forebears cooked healthy meals from fresh produce. The food that was available to our ancestors was full of nutrition. Nowadays, the reverse is the case. The soil we grow plants in is depleted of minerals and beneficial bacteria. The use of synthetic fertilizer, herbicides and pesticides sprayed by workers in hazmat suites often genetically modified.

In addition, minerals and vitamin deficiencies often lead to illness and premature aging. Minerals are not produced in our body but need to be replenished every day. Let’s take a look at what the symptoms are when someone eats a less than optimal diet.

  • Fatigue
  • Trouble sleeping through the night
  • Weight gain
  • Headaches, back pain, knee pain, and shoulder pain
  • Digestive issues – gas, constipation, diarrhea
  • Gum disease
  • Tooth decay
  • Bad breath
  • Muscle tension
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Anger and irritability
  • Skin rashes or eczema
  • Brain fog

Foods should provide us with energy, satisfy us, be fun to eat, and keep us healthy. In addition we need to think about our gut health which includes foremost the health of our gut bacteria. We have about 2 lbs of gut bacteria which weighs as much as our brain and communicates with the brain.

Let’s take a look at what foods are beneficial for us and the micorbiome, the gut bacteria.

  • Grass fed beef
  • Organic raised pork
  • Free roaming, natural fed poultry
  • Eggs from natural fed chicken
  • Butter from grass fed cow milk
